c.1900 S.S.Stewart Banjo
A classic 5 string banjo from the famous S.S. Stewart company of Philadelphia, with characteristic fine inlaid headstock and fretboard, older style high quality mechanical tuners, ebony fretboard and frets in excellent condition on a dead straight neck, fine "Rogers" calf vellum head and metal hardware in great condition. Plus! An ornately carved heel in stylised leaf pattern. Designed to be played with (modern nylon) gut strings (although very light guage steel will work too), recently professionally set up, this fine 100 year old banjo has the ultimate spooky sound when played with the 'frailing' finger-style of the era. Please enquire for more photos and information. |

c.1919 Orpheum 'Custom' Banjo Mandolin
Another fabulous old time instrument. All of the construction details indicate that this fine banjo mandolin was made by the Orpheum / Paramount Banjo Co. who operated in New York from 1897 to 1920. According to some information from previous owner, this was a special order by an officer from the USS Defiance who wanted to commemorate his ship with the headstock logo 'Defiance' together with nautical anchor and flag inlays. Beautiful heel carving in the maple neck and marquetry on the maple part of the pot. Plays beautifully and comes with old custom made hard case. Please enquire for more photos and information. |

Circa 1929 Oscar Schmidt Stella
Lovely old "Oscar Schmidt" made Stella (ie before 1935 when Stella became a budget brand name of Harmony Company). Gorgeous honey colour - top, sides and back all birch, as used in many Oscar Schmidt instruments. Structurally strong. Bridge has just been reglued with proper hide glue. This guitar is designed for lap playing (evidenced by straight rather than angled bridge saddle) and sounds great for that. For 'normal' playing a luthier's attention to the neck would be required as the neck is a bowed and fretting above the 7th fret is not ideal. Price reflects this. Older style but not original hard case. Check out prices on these in US at http://www.stellaguitars.com/ Please enquire for more details. |

1920s Stella Tiple
Now here's a rare piece. A 1920s 10-string 'Stella' Tiple (pronounced tee-play). Made by the Oscar Schmidt company in New Jersey at the same time they were making the classic Stella guitars played by Ledbelly and Co (and not to be confused with the post-1935 Harmony-made budget Stella instruments). Solid spruce top, solid oak back and sides, body dimensions based on Martin Tiple of the same era, with double courses for the outside strings and triple courses for the inside pair....it sounds about 5 times bigger than its size and will cut through any acoustic session, like a mandolin on steroids. Classic tiple tuning is tenor uke style A D F# B, but all sorts of options are possible. Gorgeous. |

1931 National Style 0
This is an early, rare, "variation 1" bell-brass Style 0 as described in pages 84 - 87 of the Bob Brozman book "The History and Artistry of National Resonator Instruments". Both collectible and highly playable, this Style O features original tuners, nut, frets, coverplate and tailpiece but a 1937 cone. Good action for both slide and standard style playing. The tone: standback - it's loud and sweet. A particularly fine sounding example of this classic model. Bob played it when he was in Canberra in 2004 and declared it a winner. Newer Martin deluxe hard case. |

1942 Gibson HG00
Hawaiian version of the famous L-00: double bound body with amber sunburst spruce top, mahogany back and sides, tiger stripe pickguard, pearl fretmarkers, three-on-a- plate tuners, X bracing. Due to WW2 steel restrictions no truss rod, but perfect straight V neck. neck width at the nut is a wide but comfy 1+13/16"; as a Hawaiian guitar the original set up was a high bone nut and straight bride saddle. This guitar has had pro set up with a low nut, new bridge with compensated saddle. Otherwise completely original, excellent condition, original case. Fantastic responsive and balanced tone - like a small J35 'Advanced Jumbo'. |

2005 Fender Champ Lap Steel
This 2005 Fender Champ lap steel reissue is a little beauty. Fender made these 6 string Champ steels from 1955 through to the late 1970s and they have the classic Fender tone derived from a Tele style pickup for lots of chime twang and cut, plus the industrial strength Fender hardware in all departments - bridge, tuners, etc. Add to that great retro style Fender aesthetics, very cool. Also comes with original dark purple lined, black tolex Fender case, all in 'as new' conditio. Plug into a good tube amp for much slidin' fun. More pics available on request. |

1960 Fender Princeton Tweed
It is rare to see a Fender amp from this era in such perfect cosmetic condition. This narrow panel 'tweed' Princeton is a pearler, from the original leather handle, to the unarked control plate, the fine diagnonal tweed, brown grill cloth, speaker and tube chart. The tube chart is marked 5F2-A indicating the small circuit improvement which removed the filter choke. Whilst original tubes and caps have been replaced this amp delivers the magic Fender tweed 4.5 watts of tone with ease. Please email for more details and pics. If you have a 1950s Tele or Stringmaster and want 'the' amp to go with it, look no further. US 110 voltage. |

1983 Fender Concert 410
This 4 x 10" 60 watt amp is a member of the "Concert II" series of amps, made by Fender in their Fullerton California factory. The 2 x 6L6 tube circuit delivers totally classic Fender sounds in the clean channel, while the switchable Hot Rod channel provides valve driven overdrive through cascading 7025 pre-amp tubes. Spring reverb on board of course. If you want the big lush rhythm sounds of a Super Reverb with the addition of tube overdrive lead tones, the 410 concert does both superbly, and the traditional blackface cosmetics are great too. This well-cared-for one-owner example is in near-mint original condition in every way. Please email for more details and pics. |
